Devices can identify faces incorrectly due to several factors, such as:
- Poor lighting or backlighting – if the device has WDR settings these may require optimizing.
- Low-quality facial images during enrollment – ensure that proper facial enrollment procedure is followed.
- Incorrect or sub-optimal device settings – check device settings after referring to the device’s user manual to ensure the following settings meet or exceed recommended values: Face enrollment threshold, Image quality threshold, Minimum face size, Face pitch and rotation, WDR (Wide Dynamic Range)
- Outdated firmware or technology on the device – check what firmware the device is on, and check with the manufacturer what the latest version is.
- Environmental factors, like extreme angles or improper positioning. Consider aspects like the sun changing position with seasons that may affect lighting, or perhaps the height of the reader is not suitable for the majority.
